Ticketing F.A.Q.

Mobile Check In: Guests who make advanced reservations will receive their tickets in their confirmation email at the time of purchase. If no changes need to be made, you can use these tickets to board your train without having to check in at the ticket office. You can keep your tickets on your mobile device and have them scanned without a paper copy. We recommend taking screenshots or saving a copy of each ticket somewhere else on your mobile device in case you have trouble connecting to cell service or wifi while visiting us. If using mobile tickets, please proceed to your designated train platform 15 – 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure, and have your tickets pulled up on the device. Each ticket must be scanned individually.

Exchanges & Refunds: Guests can make changes to their reservation after a purchase has been made. Please refer to the confirmation email you received for the link to make changes. On the receipt portion, look for “Want to change the ticket?” and next to it click “Change Here.” There is a fee of $2.50 per order for any changes made to a reservation either online or over the phone. This may include but is not limited to making the following changes – time, date, row/seat,etc. You may also be eligible to pay an additional amount if you are upgrading the ticket type from Biodiesel to Steam, or One-way to roundtrip.

Ticketing Fee: When ordering tickets, there is a NON-Refundable processing fee of $2.50 per tickets. 

Discounts: A valid AAA or Military ID must be shown at time of purchase to qualify for discounts. Discounts and promo codes cannot be stacked, only 1 ap plies per ticket. Discounted tickets must be purchased in person or by calling 603-278-2259.

 Hiker Parking Discount: Hikers who come on weekends when our hiker parking attendant is issuing the parking passes, are eligible to receive a coupon to offset the price of parking. It will be valid for $10 off per ticket on one-way trips only. The coupon MUST be presented at time of purchase at base or summit to qualify for the discount. If it is left in the car/pack/etc, it can NOT be applied retroactively. 

Gift Certificates / Vouchers: Can be purchased by calling 603-278-2259. All gift certificates must be presented to the ticket office the day you come to ride the train. You will not be able to board your train until the gift certificate has been turned in to the ticket office. All coupons/vouchers must be presented to ticket office staff when purchasing and/or picking up tickets.

Redeeming Tickets: Tickets can be printed at the ticket office upon request at any time. Some guests will need to check-in with the ticket office prior to boarding in order to receive their tickets if they: paid with a gift certificate, need to turn in a promotional code coupon, have received specialty complimentary tickets, or have a White Mountain Attractions pass (both value pass and employee pass) or do not have access to a home printer or mobile device that displays tickets in a format that can be scanned. You can print the tickets off yourself at home (if no changes need to be made) or have them printed at the ticket office to be used for your trip if using a mobile device is not a possibility for your party.

Assigned Seating: Guests who come with friends and family to ride the train, but make separate reservations instead of 1 for all people, may be seated separately. If you want a better chance of being seated together or near specific passengers, please call the ticket office directly or try to book all tickets on the same reservation. If you have a group of 20 people or more you may qualify for our group rates. See our group sales page for more info on this. We try to accommodate seating requests to the best of our ability. However we cannot guarantee any particular seating arrangement will be available for every trip, especially if reservations are made online. If the ticket office is not contacted at the time of booking for any special seating requests, you may be subject to pay the change ticket fee for any desired seat changes. The engine is situated behind coach row 14. There is one engine for every coach/platform. Going up, row 1 is in the front. Going down, row 14 is in the front. At the summit, the brakeman flips over the seats so passengers do not have to go down the mountain in reverse. They are similar in style to old trolley benches. You will always be facing forward in the direction the train is traveling.
