SUNRISE EXCURSIONS TO THE SUMMIT OF MOUNT WASHINGTON
3 trips only:
JULY 24, AUGUST 14, SEPTEMBER 12, 2026
WATCH THE DAY BEGIN FROM THE TOP OF NEW ENGLAND!
NH Governor Kelly Ayotte beagn her "Super 603 Day" tour of the State with a spectacular sunrise excursion to the summit in 2025Mount Washington may not be the first spot on the East Coast to see the sunrise every morning– that honor belongs to our next-door neighbor over in coastal Maine– but it definitely provides the most dramatic vista. Historically, early morning access to the highest point in the Northeast was limited to a fortunate few– overnight hikers, employees of the Mount Washington State Park, the scientists and meteorologists living and working at the Mount Washington Observatory, and guests enjoying one of the Mount Washington Auto Road’s occasional sunrise van tours.
Now there’s another way, and it’s probably the most unique– limited sunrise excursions to the summit on the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway! On three early mornings this summer, we’ll climb the dark western face of the mountain under starlit skies, with dawn’s gentle amber glow on the eastern horizon only visible when the train starts to level out above tree line. At the top, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the summit before the crowds arrive, and before the sun finally pokes its head above the mountains of western Maine.
Like us, you’ll have to be up before the birds to get to Marshfield Base Station in time for the boarding call 15 minutes prior to departure. But we’ll have the coffee and hot chocolate ready for you. We can’t promise perfect conditions– this is the home of the world’s worst weather after all– but we can promise an unforgettable adventure for you and your family. Reserve your seats today– tickets are on sale now, but they won’t last!
